Foundations: Launch Position

What This Drill Helps Fix

Hitters who don't understand what the launch position is or how to get into it will struggle to develop key aspects of a great swing—bat speed, power, and quality of contact—because failing to reach a good launch position consistently undermines all of them.

Why Fixing This Is Important

To consistently hit the ball hard, several key elements are crucial. Maintain a foot stance where the distance between your feet is 50-60% of your height. Your front shoulder should be lower than your back shoulder, and the bat's knob should point towards the catcher. Ensure your body weight is centered, and your eyes, nose, and chin are aligned. Your front knee should have a bend, and your front heel should be firmly on the ground. Keep your back leg long with some bend, and engage a torso tilt/hip hinge. Finally, position your hands close to your back shoulder and above your back foot.
